The Infiniti Performance Engineering Academy is a global search for the world’s best and brightest emerging engineering talent.

We're giving you the chance to apply for a one year assignment at Infiniti Red Bull Racing, the four-time Formula One World Championship-winning team (Milton Keynes, UK). The placement comes complete with a salary, shared accommodation and car lease, in addition to attendance at this year's British Grand Prix.

Eligibility criteria More Information

To be eligible for the Infiniti Performance Engineering Academy, you must:

Be studying an engineering or relevant science undergraduate degree in 1 of 11 Infiniti ‘Focus Markets’. The 2014 Focus Markets are: 

  • Australia
  • Malaysia
  • Hong Kong*
  • Singapore
  • China
  • Russia
  • UAE
  • Germany
  • UK
  • Mexico
  • US

Candidates must also:

Be graduating or in their final year of undergraduate study in 2014.

Be able to provide evidence of a strong achieved or predicted degree result.**

Have a valid passport (ideally valid for another two years). 

Be fluent in English.

Have a clean driving licence.

Be available for the final event (if necessary) for one week around July 2-3 2014.  

Be available to work in the United Kingdom for a twelve-month period commencing September 2014. 


*Where a candidate studies in Hong Kong, only applications from the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology will be accepted, owing to our exclusive Academy partnership. 

**The following are equivalent academic standard examples that we will be referring to: UK 2:1 or Upper Second Class Honours and a United States 3.2 Grade Point Average.      

How to apply Register Now

Candidates will be graded on 5 fronts, depending on their application progress:

  1. CV (no longer than 2 pages)
  2. Essay Response (no longer than 500 words)
  3. Telephone Interview
  4. Infiniti Red Bull Racing Engineer Assessment
  5. Final Event

CV Details:

Should include your Name, Telephone Number, Email Address, Country of Study, Permanent Residency Address (where your passport is registered), University Name, Course Name and Predicted or Achieved Result (to be verified later).

It should also include a concise account of your academic achievements in addition to any professional experience and relevant personal interests.      

Essay Question:

Q. What future technology should Formula One be incorporating to keep road-relevant?

Answers should be no more than 500 words in length and:

  • Show an understanding of Formula One technology, demonstrating creative and original thinking.
  • Link this to the wider automotive industry and Infiniti road cars in particular.
  • Demonstrate a good command of the English language.

The following 8 areas of technology research are for guidance only and essay grading will not be limited to these areas:

  1. Aerodynamics
  2. Control systems and electronics
  3. Design and analysis
  4. Performance engineering
  5. Power-train energy recovery
  6. R&D of materials
  7. Transducers and test technology
  8. Vehicle dynamics

Telephone Interview

If through to the latter stages, we would like to get a sense of you as a person. How do you respond to questions under pressure? What is your knowledge of Infiniti as a business? Ultimately we're looking for someone with technical prowess and ambition, but also a real character, someone that is happy to share their experience throughout the year. 

Engineer Assessment

Shortlisted candidates will have their essays presented to Infiniti Red Bull Racing engineers, who will select 12 to go through to the UK Final in July 2014. 

UK Final

Candidates have the opportunity to present themselves formally at the Headquarters of Infiniti Red Bull Racing during a 2 day 'boot-camp'. Presenting their essay in front of an experienced panel and participating in several assessed aptitude and teamwork testing activities, 3 candidates will walk away knowing that they have earned the coveted one year engineering placement.
